The ether is volatile and arbitrary, it is wild and forces even an experienced mage
to lose control of their magic from time to time. Regardless of the reason, when
a miscast occurs dangerous things happen. The threat to miscasting is very real,
and extremely important to heed. Magic has the inherit risk of miscasting, always.
When your character enters the Enchanted Hills, even if they are a potent arch-mage,
they will not have an understanding of how to manipulate the constantly changing,
enigmatic elements of the land.
Much of the magic within the Enchanted Hills is prone to miscasting and going haywire.
It is for this reason that so much of it is metered and controlled. However it is
not an impassable force.
Spell Miscasting
When a miscast happens, the magic goes completely out of control. The process begins
by rolling 2d6 to determine the effect. Both of the numbers are added
together, and the Miscasting chart is consulted.
2
Your spell is amplified ten fold as you become a living beacon of uncontrollable
mana, which tears your mortal body apart from the immense energies. You are slain
outright.
3
The spell which you were attempting to cast is released premature after becoming
accidentally augmented- The hand used to cast the spell is blown off down to the
wrist, dealing 15 damage. Lose ½ your combat attack die.
4 - 6
Your spell simply fizzles, and your mana used to cast the spell is wasted.
7 - 8
Your spell instead raises your vitals or other internal systems drastically, boiling them and dealing
50% of your maximum health in damage.
9 - 10
Your spell instead rips a tear in the material plane, allowing enemies from beyond
our world to enter our own and attack! Game Master needs to be notified.
11
Your intended spell instead targets a random ally [roll 1dX where X
is = to the number of allies nearby. Assign each character a number. If their number
comes up, then the spell targets them.)
12
Your spell channels more raw mana than the body can endure. Your mind within your
skull is wiped like camera film prematurely exposed to light – Permanently.
